The Township of Bonnechere Valley owns and operates the Water and Sewage Systems serving approximately 550 residential and non-residential customers in the Village of Eganville.

The Water and Sewage Department is responsible for the overall management, operation and maintenance of the systems.

Municipal Drinking Water Licence & Works Permit:

The Township of Bonnechere Valley has a Municipal Drinking Water Licence and Drinking Water Works Permit for the Eganville Drinking Water System.

Raw Water Supply: The source water for the Eganville Drinking Water System is the Bonnechere River, which originates in Algonquin Park and flows to the Ottawa River.

Treatment Process: The raw water from the Bonnechere River is processed using a conventional type treatment plant with chemical coagulation, flocculation, clarification and filtration. Disinfection is achieved by the introduction of sodium hypochlorite which maintains free chlorine residual in the treated water.

Distribution System: Treated water is pumped into the distribution system which consists of approximately 13 km of underground piping and the Bruce Street standpipe for pressure equalization and supply when the pumps are cycled off.

Water Quality Monitoring: An extensive monitoring program is in place for both the treatment process and distribution system. All current Provincial requirements are being met for process monitoring and water quality.

Quality Management System: The Township of Bonnechere Valley maintains a Quality Management System (QMS) for the Eganville Drinking Water System in conformance with "Ontario's Drinking Water Quality Management Standard" (DWQMS).

Compliance Reporting: An Eganville Drinking Water System Summary Report is prepared and submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) on an annual basis.


The Township of Bonnechere Valley has developed an Asset Management Plan for the Water and Sewage Infrastructure in the Village of Eganville.  This Plan is structured as a living document which allows for ongoing updates and inclusion of new information.

Capital Projects: The Bruce Street standpipe was refurbished in 2017 with new exterior paint and safety upgrades to the roof access structures.  A new internal water mixing system will be installed in 2018 to assist in maintaining water quality.


A six-year Financial Plan has been developed for the Eganville Water and Sewage Systems in accordance with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). The Financial Plan is considered a “living document” and is reviewed and updated annually as part of the Township’s budgeting process.

Water and Sewage System usage rates are established annually by by-law to produce sufficient revenue to meet the estimated budget required for operation, maintenance and renewal of the water and sewage systems.

Municipal Sewage Works Certificate of Approval:  The Township of Bonnechere Valley has a Municipal Sewage Works Certificate of Approval for the Eganville Sewage Treatment Plant, Sewage Pumping Stations and Collection System.

Collection System: The gravity sewage collection system consists of approximately 11 km of underground piping and four sewage pumping stations.

Treatment Process: The collected sewage is processed in an extended aeration treatment system with the effluent being chlorinated and then de-chlorinated before it is discharged into the Bonnechere River. The aerated digested sludge is dewatered utilizing Geotube technology and the resultant biosolids are transported to landfill to be used as a soil amendment for final cover.

Sewage Quality Monitoring: An extensive monitoring program is in place for the sewage treatment process, effluent discharge and sludge dewatering. All current Provincial and Federal requirements are being met for process monitoring, sewage effluent discharge and biosolids quality.

Compliance Reporting: A Performance Report is prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) on an annual basis.

In order to conduct an open air burn residents must obtain a burn permit from the township office. There is no cost to obtain the permit; however, failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the burn by-law can result in fines and/or charges.

By-Law #2005-36 require that all dogs be licensed by their owners each calendar year. There shall be no more than four (4) animals per household at any one time.

Dog Licenses:

  • License Fee for all dogs before March 31st in any year $20
  • License Fee for all dogs after March 31st in any year $30

Exception: The dog tag fee for service and therapy dogs shall be waived upon presentation of their Proof of Certification.  Dogs shall be registered with the Township and be tagged.

Kennel Licenses:

  • License Fee before March 31st in any year $50
  • License Fee after March 31st in any year $75

Impound & Maintenance Fees:

  • Impound Fee $25
  • Daily Maintenance Fees (daily or part day) $10

Lottery Licensing

Lottery Licensing eligibility of your organization will be determined by the licensing office. The licensing authority will review all relevant documentation to determine eligibility. These decisions are based on what is considered charitable in law according to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Marriage License Information

The Township of Bonnechere Valley serves the public directly by issuing Marriage Licenses. There are certain stipulations and requirements for marriages in Ontario and for the issuance of a Marriage license in The Township of Bonnechere Valley.  Please review these requirements carefully (see applicable downloads and supporting documentation below).

Please be advised that in order to apply for a Marriage License both individuals must present their Birth Certificates and Government issued Photo Identifications.

Please be advised that the expected time frame from dropping off the Marriage License Application to receiving the completed Marriage License is 2 business days.  Please find at the top of this page a Marriage License Application Form and required information to obtain a marriage license from The Township of Bonnechere Valley.

Transient Traders

A transient trader is defined as:

“A person who conducts business on an ad hoc basis and pays no business tax to the Township of Bonnechere Valley under the Assessment Act.”

Individuals wishing to engage in the transient sale of goods within the municipality must obtain a transient trader's license from The Township of Bonnechere Valley prior to engaging in any business activity.

The prescribed fee for a Transient Trader's License is as follows:

  • Annual:  $200.00

Application forms and Licenses are available during regular business hours at the municipal office from Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

By-law No. 2003-09 governs the activities of Transient Traders who are engaged in business activity within the Township of Bonnechere Valley.

About The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department

The Township of Bonnechere Valley is served by a 911 emergency system.

In the event of an emergency, residents should call 911 from a safe location and provide the requested information to the call center.

If the emergency requires the fire service dispatch will page firefighters to respond.

The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department has an authorized limit of 40 firefighters and has two fire halls. Eganville Hall is located at 49 Bonnechere St. E. in the Village of Eganville and Sebastopol Hall is located 121 Janet Drive in the Hamlet of Foymount.

Members serving on the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department are committed to providing the community with emergency response services which include:

<![CDATA[Lottery License Information]]>, 19 Jun 2018 2:26:55 -0400The eligibility of your organization will be determined by the licensing office. The licensing authority will review all relevant documentation to determine eligibility. These decisions are based on what is considered charitable in law according to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Your organization may qualify for a lottery license if it provides a charitable service to Ontario residents under one of these categories:

  • Relieve Poverty
  • Advance Religion
  • Advance Education
  • Benefit the Community

The following pre-requisites are mandatory to be considered eligible for a lottery license.

  1. Organizations must have been in existence for at least one (1) year before being considered eligible for lottery licenses.
  2. The organization must have a place of business in Ontario, demonstrate that it is established to provide charitable services in Ontario and use proceeds for objects or purposes which benefit Ontario residents.
  3. Completion of the Town of Renfrew Application for Licensing Eligibility form.

Lottery licensing refers to lottery schemes permitted by the license under the Criminal Code of Canada. Typically, these may include Bingos, Raffles, Break Open Tickets and social gaming events held by charitable or religious organizations. Licensed Charitable or Religious Organizations must conduct and manage their events in accordance with licensing policies and the terms and conditions of the licenses and fulfill all prescribed reporting requirements. It is illegal to print tickets, promote or conduct a charitable gaming event without a license.

A raffle is a lottery scheme where tickets are sold for a chance to win a prize in a draw.To qualify for a raffle license your organization must have a proven charitable mandate. Your application must be completed by two members of your organization and returned to the Treasury Department for review and approval. Please allow 3 business days for processing. The license fee is 3% of the value of the prizes.

The application must include the location, date and time of draw. Price of the tickets. Total number of tickets printed. Rules for the draw. The cutoff date for tickets sales. A complete list of prizes, with their full retail value (plus taxes) – attach to application if there is not enough room on form. (if your prize(s) are donated a prize value is still mandatory). In the case of 50/50 draws the estimated maximum value of the prize is required.

The licensee may lease or rent break open ticket dispensers provided it complies with the requirements and standards for devices, is approved by the Registrar and is manufactured by a gaming equipment manufacturer and supplied by a gaming equipment supplier or gaming equipment manufacturer registered under the Gaming Control Act, 1992 and Regulations.

The licensee shall provide a licensing authority with a financial report outlining the results of the lottery on the prescribed form in the prescribed time frame.

<![CDATA[Eganville Curling Club]]>, 14 Jun 2017 2:58:02 -0400The Eganville Curling Club (operated by the Eganville and District Athletic Association) is located on Foran Road (Legion Field) in Eganville. It has been open since 1951. We extend an invitation to anyone who would like to curl. You do not have to be a curler to enjoy this activity. The Eganville Curling Club has two ice sheets, banquet hall, bar, and kitchen facilities.

Typical curling times are Mondays (men curling), Tuesday and Thursday mornings (mixed curling), Thursdays evenings (mixed curling) and Saturday nights are Open House Curling.

The curling season lasts from November to April and is broken up into three draws. Free lessons are offered to new curlers. We offer curling leagues that are recreational and competitive.

  • preventing fires from starting;
  • maintaining working smoke alarms on every storey of your home and outside all sleeping areas to have as much time to safely escape as possible. Working alarms save lives, and are required by law;
  • planning and practicing a home fire escape plan so that everyone knows what to do in the event of fire;

The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department supports fire prevention through public education. Some of the fire prevention initiatives offered to the community include:

  1. Fire Prevention Week activities each year in October;
  2. Fire safety presentations to schools and children;
  3. Fire department participation in fire drills;
  4. Hazard House demonstrations: Learning simulator which uses special effects and interactive prompts to reinforce fire safety messages;
  5. Smoke alarm program including inspection, education and installation of smoke alarms;
  6. Fire safety training for employees and employers;
  7. Fire station tours for all age groups;
  8. Fire safety presentations on topics such as kitchen safety, home escape planning, fire prevention. If your group is interested in a specific fire safety topic let us know and we can tailor a presentation to your needs.

Once a building is issued an occupancy permit, the Ontario Fire Code takes effect. The owner of a building is responsible to ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code. Under the Fire Prevention and Protection Act municipalities are responsible for enforcing the Ontario Fire Code within their boundaries.

The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department conducts inspections and enforces compliance with the Ontario Fire Code. Our inspection practices include:

  1. Complaint inspections
  2. Request inspections
  3. Routine inspections per fire prevention policy
  4. Issuance of Fire Inspection Orders
  5. Enforcement of Ontario Fire Code
  6. Enforcement of municipal by-law

The Bonnechere Valley Fire Department also participates in fire investigations to determine fire cause and origin. Emergency incidents are reported to the Office of the Fire Marshal. Some fire incidents may require further investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal or Ontario Provincial Police. The Office of the Fire Marshal investigations branch must be notified for suspicious fires, fires that result in loss of life, explosions and large loss fires.
