Be Prepared for Winter
· Getting a maintenance checkup for your car.
· Keep a go bag in your vehicle incase of breakdowns
· Change to snow tires, top up your antifreeze, & always keep your fuel tank at least ½ full.
· Have your chimney inspected & cleaned annually to ensure it’s not a fire hazard.
· Severe weather can cause power outages. Keep a flashlight in each room
· Keep extra blankets, warm socks, gloves, & hats for everyone in your household.
· Listen to radio or watch internet weather updates for forecasts to avoid unnecessary travel if conditions are hazardous.
· Dress for the weather & keep fingers, toes, ears, & nose covered to avoid frostbite.
· Weatherproofing requires actions inside and outside your home. Trim branches hanging over your house or vehicle, so they don’t get weighed down with snow and ice.
· Have salt/ice melter available to place on steps and roadways to avoid slips and falls
· Talk to neighbours, family, & friends about your winter preparedness plans.
· Discuss how you can support others to stay safe & comfortable if an emergency occurs.
· Keep emergency preparedness in mind for the New Year!!!
