There will be two sessions offered for the 2026 Swim Program.
· July 6 - 24
· August 3 - August 20
Lessons will only be cancelled by Swim Program staff due to inclement weather. All participants will exit the water for thunder, wait, and continue the lesson only when staff deem it safe to do so. In the case of lighting, the lesson will be cancelled. Lessons will continue in the rain.
Preschool Levels (1-2)
Restricted to children aged 4-5, with very minimal-to-no swimming experience. The swim program will only provide Preschool levels 1-2, as preschool levels 3-5 are equivalent to swimmer levels. Children who are 5 years old and are more nervous about water and swimming are encouraged to register in Preschool 2 rather than Swimmer 1. Preschool programs develop an appreciation and healthy respect for the water before kids get in too deep. These swimmers become comfortable in the water and have fun developing a foundation of water skills. Lessons are 30 minutes.
Swimmer Levels (1-6)
Restricted to children aged 5 and older (suggested 5-12 as per the Lifesaving Society). Children who are 5 years old and more eager about swimming are encouraged to register in Swimmer 1. Progressions accommodate this age group, including beginners and swimmers who want to build on the basics. Lots of in-water practice develops solid swimming strokes and skills. Swimmer 1-2 lessons are 30 minutes, and Swimmer 3-6 are 45 minutes, as suggested by the Lifesaving Society. See the Swimmer at a Glance PDF for more information on Swimmer Levels 1-6 here
Canadian Swim Patrol (Rookie, Ranger, Star)
Targeted towards swimmers who have either completed all swimmer levels, or are proficient in the basic swim skills. The Swim Patrol provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. Swim Patrol continues to develop participants' swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society's Bronze medal awards. Lessons are 1 hour.
Bronze Medallion
Restricted to children 13 years and older, or younger children who have completed Bronze Star. The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion challenges the candidate both mentally and physically. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make
good decisions in, on, and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for assistant lifeguard training in Bronze Cross. Lessons are 2 hours.
Bronze Cross
Restricted to swimmers who have completed Bronze Medallion. The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs. Lessons are 2 hours.
